Vintage Mid-Century Dual-Tone Combination Wardrobe / Compactum
A practical and charming 1950s/1960s mid-century combination wardrobe (compactum), featuring a striking dual-tone wood design with a lighter honey-oak vertical grain door contrasted by rich, deep mahogany-toned drawers and upper cabinets. The right side features a full-length wardrobe door opening to reveal a compact hanging rail compartment, perfect for coats and dresses. The left side maximizes functionality with an upper storage cupboard, a pull-down cocktail/secretary hatch, and three spacious drawers underneath fitted with their original retro metal pull handles.
This piece has been cleaned in our London based workshop, preserving its completely original vintage condition. By choosing sustainable furniture, you’re not only minimizing waste, you’re also helping individuals build skills and futures through our traineeship programmes. All original features remain intact, including the slender metal handles, functional cabinet hinges, and the original internal hanging rail layout.  This piece came to us as it is and is sold as seen. Choosing it supports a more circular approach and helps keep materials out of landfill and incineration.

This iconic mid-century utility wardrobe brings exceptional storage flexibility and space-saving design to smaller urban bedrooms or entryways. Popularized in postwar Britain by brands like Austin Suite and Lebus, combination compactums like this beautifully blend multiple furniture pieces into one footprint. The distinctive contrast between the light and dark timber veneers makes it a striking statement piece that effortlessly grounds vintage, bohemian, or eclectic interiors.

• Condition: This vintage wardrobe is in fair to average vintage condition. The surfaces show typical wear, minor scuffs along the base edges, and light surface markings expected from a piece of this era. There are some deeper scratches in places (see photos).The drawers slide well, and the doors hang securely. Please examine the photos carefully, as they form part of the product description. ABOUT US Petit Miracles has been based in Shepherd’s Bush in the London Borough of Hammersmith & Fulham since 2009. If you’d like to see our pieces in person, you can find our shop in the W12 Shopping Centre, where we also have our maker-space. Through our programs, we teach disadvantaged and vulnerable adults in the community, including people with disabilities. Every hour spent improves their confidence and helps each individual reach their potential. We nurture creativity in a supportive environment while providing valuable training, guidance, and experience in a work setting from master upholsterers, professional interior designers, and restoration experts. Participants learn important skills in traditional crafts, restoration, DIY basics, painting and decorating, retail business, and entrepreneurship. Beneficiaries can choose how much time to commit – as a volunteer, through work experience, or a traineeship.
