Humans of Petit – Elise

What made you want to volunteer?

Elise I volunteered because after my University degree in Furniture and Product Design I found it very hard to get any replies from furniture design jobs due to the fact all the designing is now done via CAD. I was traditionally trained which is why I chose the course in the first place, I drew by hand and made by hand. This lead me to volunteer and Petit Miracles I needed some form of furniture creation to keep me using my hands.

How would you describe Petit Miracle Interiors?

Petit Miracles is a really nice place to be, the shop and workshop are bright and clean, everyone who works there is really friendly and helpful. The environment is relaxed which means cracking on with some upcycling is very therapeutic and enjoyable.

Have you developed new skills whilst volunteering?

I have learnt how to look at old furniture in a different way before I would chop it up and use the wood to make something new, but it has taught me to appreciate the original design, even when it is not my taste.

Humans of Petit: Federico

My name is Federico and I am from a town just outside of Rome. I recently completed a degree in Furniture Design. The qualification involved all the stages from initial concept of a piece, right through to creation. I was offered to come to England on a 6 month internship through my college and was placed at Petit Miracles.

Here, I have learned more about commercialisation in the furniture industry but also have had the chance to learn and use different materials I had never used before; different types of paint, finishes, oils and stains. On top of all of this, I am also slowly improving my English!

Humans of Petit: Kate Moore

Kate Moore – General Manager

I have always been interested in furniture and loved being creative but never really had the confidence to pursue it as a career. I saw an advert for an apprentice position at Petit Miracles and the rest is history! I am now general manager, my role includes Upholstery for the shop and bespoke orders, helping customers with their queries, making sure the shop looks beautiful and whenever I can I will be in the workshop!

Petit Miracles has given me confidence in myself and abilities and helped me grow as a person. I love working here because it’s a really creative environment, we have a great group of staff and volunteers and every day is different! My favourite piece of furniture so far has to be ‘Hattie’, a multi-media chest of drawers, one of the first pieces I worked on.

Petit Miracle Hub Launch – News release

Our new enterprise at West 12 is far from petit – Pop-up retailers have taken over kiosks in shopping centre

A new and exciting way of shopping, bringing local and independent entrepreneurs closer to London shoppers, has arrived in Shepherd’s Bush.

Our Petit Miracles Hub, an incubator for business owners from Hammersmith and Fulham, opened at West 12 shopping centre on Thursday 4 December, providing a communal space for 20 emerging businesses.

Located on the first floor of the shopping centre, The Hub has welcomed business owners who have set up shop at specially designed kiosks, offering products ranging from candles, chocolates and cushions to fashion and jewellery.

Patrizia Galeota, Founder and Director of SensiChic Limited, who has rented a kiosk at the Hub, said: “It’s always been an ambition of mine to run my own business and I needed to change my work/life balance after the birth of my son. I wanted to develop something I could do from home and that would generate an income as well as offering the flexibility I needed as a mother.

“The Petit Miracles Hub is such an incredible initiative that will give entrepreneurs like myself an important stepping stone into retail; there really should be more projects like this up and down the country.”

The Hub provides a new shopping experience for visitors to West 12, where they can browse beautifully created items and speak to the people with the ideas behind them.

Totalling 6,000 sq ft, our Petit Miracles Hub is the brain-child of the West 12 management team and our Director, Elisicia Moore, a passionate social entrepreneur and a self-confessed upcycling enthusiast who already owns the Hub’s sister store located at West 12, Petit Miracles Interiors.

It houses innovative meeting areas including a garden shed and presentation areas, as well as a DJ booth and café.

Elisicia said: “The Hub will provide a great opportunity for people looking to trial a business or take it to the next level. We are so passionate about creating a fun and inspirational space where people can learn and succeed independently while being able to learn skills and different approaches from others around them.

“The rates are significantly lower than normal high street business rates. This was important as often these high rates are prohibiting amazing entrepreneurs from taking their first step onto the business ladder. The Hub will get people and their great services and products in front of shoppers in a cost effective way.”

We offer the 20 available spaces first to early-stage entrepreneurs based in Hammersmith and Fulham who either have a registered company or are soon to register.

Carl Meale, Centre Manager of West 12, said: “We are proud to have worked in conjunction with Petit Miracles to create such a pioneering concept. The Hub is a fantastic platform for showcasing local entrepreneurship. Not only will it introduce fresh, local talent into the retail industry via the business incubation model but The Hub will be a new creative centre for West 12 and Shepherds Bush.”
