1st case study:
The below case study is from a student who has taken all three courses PMI offers: Taster Day, a Six-week course as well as the Diploma course. 'Sherry' is a 28-year-old female living in London.
How has taking the course changed you?
It changed my confidence levels and boosted my appetite for life again. I was very, very depressed before I started the course even though I had completed an undergrad course in the same subject I found I was happiest when I was drawing, making mood boards and asking my peer groups the vital question needed in order to make a new interior uplift them. The course changed my ability to think more about the individual user as opposed to the multiple, i.e. large multi-purpose buildings or buildings with a high volume of human traffic (which is what university focused on).
How has the course changed your employment prospects?
I got a 6-month contract working in an architect’s practice which allowed me to put all my theoretical knowledge into practice. I got to see and help out on real projects which instead of just working on the computer or paper I got to see the finished project in the flesh. Even looking at the amount of drawings that had to be redrawn to suit any new requirements/changes of the client or even the planning authorities, at times that could be frustrating but it’s part of what happens. Change is never easy!
What did you think of the training offered?
I really enjoyed the training given it was easy to follow and the different levels of people understanding within the group was always looked after. No one was ever left behind.
Where do you see yourself headed as a result of your qualification?
I see myself working in a practice full time or teaching Interior Design to others.
Would you refer others onto this course, why?
I would definitely recommend this course to other people because it’s a great place to meet new people and to learn a new skill. It’s a brilliant esteem booster because many students want to take the stuff they’d learned and apply it to their own living space to showcase their new found skill and possibly a new found love of interior design!!!!!!
